Exciting news from Kutchan Council this week, the design for the brand new Shinkansen station has been confirmed!
After opening up the choice of 3 designs to a public vote through January, Plan A was the overwhelmingly popular choice among the nearly 2,000 votes cast.
A mammoth construction project, the new station and surrounding area will be completely revamped to accommodate the new Shinkansen lines, scheduled for completion in 2030.
The line extension from Hakodate will run through Kutchan as far as Sapporo, revolutionising access to the Niseko area.
The current 2 hour journey to Sapporo will take just 25 minutes, with central Tokyo only a 4.5 hour ride away.
Kutchan land prices have seen some of the fastest appreciation in the country, and no doubt will continue this upward trend as the project nears completion.
